Welcome to the Education and Outreach page at inFluxdance. As a company, we are interested in pursuing various outreach programs in different communities.
As stated in our mission, outreach plays an important role in our interests. We find it important to involve the community in various aspects our our creative work including workshops, educational lecture demonstrations, accessibility outreach, and performances. inFluxdance is committed to forging links between art and the rest of the world.
As artists, we value our ability to create work that is important in our lives as well as within the community. It is vital to inspire thought, discussion, and further creation within the environment we live in. In order to engage all people (dancers and non-dancers or all ability-levels) we play an active role in dance/movement education, accessibility education, collaborative projects, and workshops.
If you know of an event that inFluxdance’s Outreach Program could be useful, please contact us.
Residency Information
inFluxdance is available for various types of residencies, workshops, and master classes. Outreach is an important part of inFluxdance’s mission. We have a variety of offerings available to communities of all experience and ability levels. We are able to work with dancers and non-dancers as well as all age groups. If you do not see something you are interested in, we can customize a workshop that may interest you.
These can be flexible to fit the needs of various programs. We can offer any combination of Workshops, Master Classes, and Lecture Demonstrations, Open Rehearsals, and Discussions with the member of the company. Often times these residencies include work with American Sign Language and Laban Movement Analysis. We are always excited to get to know different types of communities through teaching as well as sharing our unique ideals of communication, collaboration, and interdisciplinary expression. We present our mission with a transformational learning approach. Rather than simply showing and lecturing, we find ways to encourage your community to interact and experience the beliefs and intricacies of inFluxdance. We can work together to find an appropriate focus for the lecture demonstration.
We have a diverse background that allows us to have a variety of focuses for our residencies. Some examples are:
* Interdisciplinary Creation
* Collaborative Creation

Workshop and Classes
Outreach is an important part of inFluxdance’s mission. We have a variety of offerings available to communities of all experience and ability levels. We are able to work with dancers and non-dancers as well as all age groups. If you do not see something you are interested in, we can customize a workshop that may interest you.
Workshop and Class Offerings:
Master Classes
Although we are centered in release-based modern dance and contact improvisation, our technique classes explore varying styles of modern dance with a full range of movement including varying levels, athletic challenges, and contemporary technique. Each class is based through a somatic perspective while working on clarity and movement efficiency. Each choreographer in the company has a unique style and finds their own personal touches to add to the class. We pride ourselves in exploring traditional and non-traditional approaches to teaching movement.
Repertory
inFluxdance has a variety of existing repertory that we are happy to set on students and other dance groups. We are also willing to create new work that guides participants through our collaborative artistic process.
Workshops
We have a variety of workshops to offer. These can also be tailored for specific needs, levels, and age groups.
Some examples of these offerings are:
Improvisation and Contact Improvisation in Choreography
This workshop focuses on how improvisation is useful in the creation of choreography as well as in the choreography itself. We look at which moments call for set choreographed movement and which moments call for the beauty of spontaneity. This can have a focus on contact improvisation techniques as well.
Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) in Choreography
How does LMA contribute to our knowledge as a choreographer. Often times there is a separation between what the audience sees and what the choreographer would like them to see. Through the lens of LMA, this workshop examines how to get our artistic vision across to our viewers.
Movement As Meaning
The first way that every human communicates is through movement. This knowledge of inherent communication stays with us through life. With that, dance can prove to be a powerful artistic medium. This workshop looks at the meaning of movement in different contexts in our society. Then, using that awareness, we will examine how this knowledge can affect our lives as choreographers and dancers. The workshop can also explore specific themes or contexts depending on the needs of the participants.
Visual Imagery As Meaning
Each time we view a performance, we are absorbing visual images constantly. This workshop will explore how visual imagery contributes to how the audience views dance and other art. This includes costume and lighting design.
American Sign Language and Dance
This workshop explores the juxtaposition of ASL, a very specific movement language, and modern dance, an abstract form of movement as communication.
Interdisciplinary Creation
This workshop brings attention to the important and equality of all mediums when creating art. This can include dance/movement, design, text, music, and visual imagery. With enough time and resources, participants can become part a creative process in which we emphasis equality and crossover of mediums.
Accessibility in Dance
We will discuss how to provide access to dance for non-traditional artists and underserved populations. With enough time and resources, participants could be guided through a process in which we take time to make this a reality through an outreach program.
Artistic Process and Collaboration
In this workshop, we will take time to discuss and explore what it means to work collaboratively. Every artist has a different artistic process. We will explore these differences as well as the overlap of common themes. Emphasis will also be placed on letting go and allowing the process to guide us.
Design for Dance
This workshop explores how design is imperative to the production of dance. It will also take participants outside the box and allow them to create a dance from an existing design.
